Camping under the Stars
The landscape around Tanhau lends itself beautifully to spending a night outdoors.
There are several spots in the Mohan range where we can organise a simple forest camping experience - the exact location depending on your appetite for adventure and your comfort level.
For those who would like to feel closer to the forest at night, there are more secluded spots where the sounds of the jungle form a constant backdrop. For families with children, we can organise a gentler camping experience closer to or within the property, where kids can learn how to pitch a tent and spend a night under the open sky in a safe and supervised setting.
We restrict camping to a maximum of four guests at a time.
A Simple, Low-Impact Experience
We take care not to disturb wildlife or damage the forest in any way. For that reason, we do not offer luxury camping or glamping.
If you choose to camp in one of the more adventurous locations, a couple of our staff members will accompany you. We always reach the site well before sundown so that tents can be set up in daylight.
We do not cook at the campsite, as cooking smells can attract animals and disturb the forest. Instead, we carry a simple packed dinner — sandwiches, fruit and other light fare.
Sleeping bags and mats are provided. There are no constructed washrooms, only the outdoors.
Camping is chargeable and depends on the chosen location and number of guests.
What the Night Feels Like
As daylight fades, the forest changes. Alarm calls, nightjars, and the distant movement of animals carry further in the still air. Sitting outside a tent as darkness settles over the valley is a very different experience from sitting on a lodge veranda.
And then there is the sky - unfiltered, uninterrupted, and often spectacular.
Camping with us is not about comfort. It is about getting to experience these up close & personal.
Important
Camping, particularly in spots close to the forest, is subject to weather, wildlife movement and forest conditions. At times it may not be advisable from a safety perspective.
If camping is important to you, please check with us while planning your stay so we can advise on feasibility.
