There’s a running joke at Tanhau: guests almost always end up eating more than they planned to. Maybe it’s the clean mountain air, maybe it’s the long days outdoors - or maybe it’s simply that the food is genuinely satisfying. Either way, we consider a good meal to be an essential part of a great stay in the Corbett landscape.

Home-Style Meals, Crafted Around You

Tanhau is a remote wilderness homestay, so we don’t operate an à la carte restaurant menu. Instead, we keep things personal: before you arrive, we take your dietary preferences and restrictions, and our team plans meals accordingly. This allows us to serve food that feels comforting, fresh, and well-suited to your rhythm here.

Expect variety and generous portions, with a menu that often includes Indian classics and seasonal comfort food, along with a few favourites beyond Indian cuisine such as Continental dishes, desi Chinese, and our much-loved Burmese khow suey.

Fresh, local, and often home-grown

Whenever possible, we cook with organic vegetables grown on the property. (Though fair warning: the kitchen garden sometimes feeds the forest before it feeds us.) While you’re here, do try the farm-fresh organic eggs laid by our free-range chickens.

The Dhaba: relaxed alfresco dining

Most meals are served at our outdoor dining area, lovingly called The Dhaba - a simple open-air space with wooden benches, forest air, and the occasional resident hen wandering by. It overlooks a waterhole, which also makes it a surprisingly good spot for relaxed birdwatching between meals.

If the weather turns (rainy evenings or cold winter nights), our staff will happily serve meals in your cottage instead. Morning and evening tea is usually brought to your cottage unless you’d prefer to have it at The Dhaba.

Spirits

You’re welcome to bring your preferred spirits at no charge, and we’ll be happy to provide mixers and basic accompaniments.
