Also many of our outdoor experiences are best experienced if you have the right footwear and clothing.

From Delhi, the drive is approximately 300 km and typically takes between 5.5 to 7 hours, depending on traffic and season.

The last four kilometres to Tanhau are along an uphill jungle dirt track, for which a 4WD vehicle is recommended.

For guests arriving in their own cars, we provide a designated, safe parking area on the main road (about 5 km from Tanhau). From there, we ferry you up and down in our SUVs.

The closest airport is Pantnagar Airport, about 115 km from Tanhau. Bareilly Airport (approximately 185 km away) is another option.

When to Visit

Corbett and Tanhau have distinctly different moods across the year.

  • Winter offers clear skies, Himalaya views, excellent birding, cold mornings and evenings - especially in open safari vehicles

  • Summer brings longer days and concentrated wildlife movement near water bodies

  • Monsoon transforms the landscape into lush green forest and is the most visually stunning, however safari options are restricited to a few zones may only

For a deeper seasonal overview, see Tanhau Across the Seasons.

What to Pack

Winter

Carry adequate warm clothing, including woollen caps and gloves. Mornings and evenings can be very cold, particularly during jeep safaris.

Summer

Loose cotton clothing is ideal. If you plan to go on nature walks or camping, long trousers and long-sleeved shirts help avoid scratches from undergrowth. A light windcheater may also be useful if evenings turn cool.

Monsoon

A raincoat is strongly recommended. The forest is magical during this time, and light rain protection allows you to enjoy it fully. A light windcheater may also be useful if evenings turn cool.

Across All Seasons

  • A pair of good walking shoes, and hiking shoes if you plan to go on hikes around Tanhau

  • Muted or earth-toned outerwear (bright colours disturb wildlife)

  • Binoculars (especially for birding)

  • A torch or headlamp for evenings

  • Insect repellent (particularly during monsoon months)

Medicines & Medical Care

If you have a specific medical condition, please carry all required medicines with you.

We maintain a basic medical and first aid kit at Tanhau covering commonly used medicines. However, chemist shops in Ramnagar are not very well stocked, so specific medicines may not always be available.

A Note on the Forest Setting

Tanhau is intentionally low-impact and immersed in the forest. Electricity is primarily solar-powered, and evenings are quiet. Other than the cottages & common areas, the rest of the propoerty is kept intentionally dark to minimise disturbance to wildlife. Mobile connectivity may vary depending on network provider and weather conditions.

We are intentionally located quite far away from most of the main safari gates and clusters of large, noisy resorts. Therefore if your primary focus is to do multiple safaris, then Tanhau may not work for you. However it is very much possible to plan 1-2 safaris during your stay here.

If you are planning safaris, permits are limited and should be booked in advance. Details on safari zones and access are available on our Jim Corbett National Park page.
