Tanhau is a small forest retreat in Uttarakhand overlooking the forests of Jim Corbett National Park.
At Tanhau, we have only two guest cottages. Each cottage is designed to offer comfort, privacy, and immersion in the forest - without compromising our commitment to a light ecological footprint.
What we offer is not conventional luxury, but something rarer: space, stillness, beauty, and a deep connection with the wild.
Cottage Chukar
Chukar is our most spacious cottage - a beautifully designed two-bedroom stone cottage, ideal for families or a group of friends travelling together.
Set amidst trees, Chukar remains naturally cool through the summer months. Built entirely in stone, it combines rustic charm with thoughtful comfort. A long verandah invites slow mornings and unhurried evenings, while the nearby bonfire area makes it a lovely space to gather as a group.
Each bedroom has a large attached washroom, with running hot water powered through solar heating.
The cottage is named after the Chukar Partridge, an elegant bird more commonly associated with high-altitude landscapes such as Ladakh. Tanhau is among the very few places in the Corbett region where these birds are seen regularly in winter. On quiet mornings, they are often spotted around the cottage grounds, and occasionally even on the verandah itself.
While Chukar looks rugged and earthy from the outside, the interiors are warm and comfortably appointed. In keeping with our ecological philosophy, we do not provide high-impact amenities such as televisions, bathtubs, or air-conditioning. Instead, we focus on the essentials that elevate a stay: comfortable duvets, soft towels, and organic toiletries.
Chukar also houses our main library, making it an especially rewarding choice for guests who enjoy reading, reflection, and slow time in nature.
Why choose Chukar?
Choose Chukar if you are travelling as a family or a group of friends, and would like the most spacious and comfortable cottage at Tanhau - perfect for shared conversations, quiet reading, and relaxed time together in the forest.

Cottage Bagh
Bagh is for guests who want to be closest to the forest, and to the possibility of the unexpected.
Built from bricks made on the property itself, this cottage sits near the forest edge and looks out over the reserve forests of Corbett. The setting is dramatic, immersive, and deeply alive. From the verandah, you may hear alarm calls, birdsong, or the quiet movement of animals using the forest track below.
Bagh is perched just above the track that separates Tanhau from the forest, a route frequently used by wildlife after dark. Even our local tigers pass through quite regularly.
To preserve the stillness of this edge habitat and minimise disturbance to wildlife, Bagh is intentionally simple. Electric lighting is limited but sufficient, and noise is kept to a minimum. This restraint is a conscious part of the experience.
Bagh is a spacious single-room cottage with:
a double bed
an attached washroom
a front verandah
space for an additional single bed (third guest)
Running hot water is provided through our solar heating system.
As with all our cottages, we do not offer air-conditioning, televisions, or bathtubs. In their place, you’ll find the comforts that complement the setting: good bedding, soft towels, and organic toiletries. If you would like chilled beverages, our team will be happy to store and serve them from the main fridge.
Why choose Bagh?
Choose Bagh if what you seek is a true jungle-edge stay with spectacular views, where the experience is defined by the landscape, the sounds of the forest, and the thrill of being close to wildlife.
There will be nights of a lot of activity, and nights of complete silence. As always in the wild, nothing is predictable, and that is part of the magic.

Food & Experiences
Dining at Tanhau
Food at Tanhau is hearty, delicious, and exactly what you want after a day outdoors - most guests choose to dine at the property throughout their stay.
Breakfast is relaxed and varied, with Indian and continental options depending on your preference, from stuffed parathas to an English spread. Lunch is typically rooted in Indian and Pahadi flavours - warming, wholesome, and comfort-forward.
Dinner is the most unhurried meal of the day, a chance to slow down, linger at the table, and end the evening on an easy, satisfying note. Guests can choose from Continental, Chinese, or Asian-style dishes, and a few house favourites tend to make repeat appearances: Burmese khow suey, continental chicken in brown sauce, and indulgent desserts like chocolate mousse and home-made gulab jamuns.
For any meals not included in your tariff (lunch or dinner), the tariff is ₹650 per person, per meal.
If you choose a Breakfast Only (CP) plan, we request that you let us know in advance about any additional meals you would like at Tanhau, so our team can prepare accordingly.
Experiences at Tanhau
Tanhau can be experienced at your own pace. For some, it is a place for deep rest — long hours on the verandah, books, views, and silence. For others, it is an invitation to explore - with guided hikes through pristine reserve forests in the Corbett landscape, where big cats also move through.
We also offer a range of special local experiences, some of which are included in your tariff.
