Bagh

Built from ‘bricks’ made on the property itself, Bagh overlooks stunningly gorgeous reserve forests of Corbett. Located very close to the edge of the forest, this cottage offers a great chance to be up close and personal with wildlife if you are lucky.

While you sit in the verandah soaking in the view, you are likely to hear or see an abundance of bird and animal action. The cottage is perched right above the track separating Tanhau from the forest, and at night this is often an animal superhighway, with occasional visits even from the local tigers.

Since it’s so close to the forest and the track, we want to minimize the disturbance to wildlife from human presence in the cottage – else inevitably over time, animals will avoid coming close. Keeping this in mind, there is no electricity connection provided. Thanks to the altitude & proximity to dense forest, the weather in Tanhau is pleasant even through most of summer. For light, we ensure that you have an adequate supply of scented candles as well as solar lanterns.

Bagh is a spacious one-room cottage with a double bed, in-suite bathroom and a verandah in front. There is adequate space for a third person to be accommodated inside the room. Running hot water is gas generated.

We shy away from providing many so-called ‘luxuries’ that don’t fit in with our commitment of leaving the lightest ecological footprint possible – so, there is no bathtub, air conditioner or a TV. However, you’ll enjoy the luxurious duvets, the soft towels and premium organic toiletries, and maybe even an exotic orchid or two in the bedroom. In case you forget to carry your own books, you will find a Kindle in the room. A wider selection of books is available in our library. Of course house rules, especially for Bagh, are strict about permissible music volume levels in the evening. If you want a chilled beer or a soft drink, our staff will be happy to store and get it from our main fridge.

Choose to stay in Bagh if you want the true jungle experience combined with a spectacular view, and are happy to forego ‘comforts’ like electricity & a fridge. Choose Bagh if keeping your ears open for alarm calls or the roar of a tiger sound more exciting to you than listening to your regular music. Of course, as is always the case with wildlife, nothing is predictable and there are some times when there is no action – but the view is always a sight for sore eyes.

Guldar

Guldar is the local name for leopard, and this cottage is so named as there is frequently leopard movement on the village path close to this cottage. Also, like the secretive & elusive nature of the leopard, this cottage is tucked away in a corner of the property far away from the view of others. Roughly plastered on the exterior with what is known locally as ‘Corbett Brown’, it resembles the forest rest houses inside the national park from the outside.

Guldar commands a beautiful view of the Kosi river winding it’s way through the verdant valley below, and a bird’s eye view of the small village of Taram on the opposite hill. This is the best place to enjoy the often stunning sunrises that Tanhau is blessed to enjoy.

Guldar is a spacious one-room cottage with a double bed, in-suite bathroom and a verandah in front. There is adequate space for a third person to be accommodated inside the room. Running hot water is gas generated.

Though rustic from the outside, Guldar is well appointed inside. A mini-fridge ensures that you are never more than an arm’s length away from a chilled beer – though of course the power supply is rather erratic. A Kindle and an iPod serve as perfect accomplices.

Choose to stay in Guldar if you are looking for privacy & a chance to seriously unwind and relax. Choose Guldar if you want a balance of the wild side along with some ‘creature comforts’ like electricity and a fridge.
